The “Red Tsunami”

This was set to be published in the Times Union and a defence against people saying that younger generation are "voting blindly."

Young people are not brainwashed, they are not voting blindly, and they most certainly are not idiots. If you fall under the category of a “Trump Republican” then you probably have heard the cries of conservative media outlets on how it is young voters who don’t know what they are doing and messing up the ‘system’.

Younger people are starting to vote because they are scared. Scared that the government wants to tell them what they can or cannot do with their bodies, scared because the old white men care about profits more than the climate, and scared because our future depends on it. It might sound like a cliché because maybe, just maybe what scientists and people have been saying repeatedly is actually true.

However, younger generations are no longer scared to stand up and have learned how to use Democracy as a tool of protest and for change.

I would even go as far as to say that the younger voting generations are more American than the majority of voting ‘Trump Republicans. Going against what talking heads like Marjorie Taylor Greene are saying, this is not a Christian government but a government where religion should have nothing to do with decisions that affect people’s lives. And the fact that programs like welfare might be cut because millionaire tv hosts and politicians say it is a waste of money is outrageous. They are there to help fellow Americans, non-bias of how they voted but because they are a person in need, a fellow human.

The more people that vote the more power the people have, and the people in power are scared.
